Did Mike Quade learn anything this season? Judging by the regular-season finale, I’m pretty sure he didn’t. The Chicago Cubs end the season with a 9-2 loss to the San Diego Padres on Sept. 28, 2011. Both teams finished the season at 71-91.

Casey Coleman paid the price after hitting his first career triple. The Chicago Cubs’ starting pitcher ended Mat Latos’ bid for a no-hitter by tripling into the gap in right-center with one out in the sixth inning Monday night. All he really did, though, was get himself tired. He was stranded, and the Cubs went on to lose 2-0.

Here in 2011, the Chicago Cubs haven’t been the slightest bit consistent. Starlin Castro has been. He manifested that consistency in the most meaningful way yet over the weekend in St. Louis as he became the youngest Cub to nab 200 hits in a season.
