The current owner of the Chicago Cubs, Sam Zell, says that he is looking at selling the naming rights to Wrigley Field.  A deal like that could net Zell an extra 20-30 million dollars as he tries to sell the stadium and the team in seperate deals.

All Cubs fans always want Wrigley Field to be named Wrigley Field for obvious reasons.  Zell is being greedy and trying to make as much money out of the deal as possible.  He should have already had the team sold by now.  This will only be good if he puts that money back into the team for players, but I really doubt that is going to happen.

Now we might see some bank or insurance company by the naming rights and call Wrigley Field some dumbass name… DUMB

Cubs second basemen / utility player Mark DeRosa was hospitalized on Saturday with an irregular heartbeat.  DeRosa was fielding groundballs at second base when he became short of breath and after being checked out by the trainer, he was taken off the field on a stretcher even though he was sitting up.

DeRosa stayed Saturday night in the hospital while tests were being run, and then was released on Sunday.  He shouldn’t miss much time with team, and will probably be back later in the week but will be monitored very closely.

General Manager Jim Hendry has said over and over that he would like to add a right handed outfielder that could possibly play all three positions before the season starts.  He has tried to trade for the Texas Rangers Marlon Byrd in the past when he offered Matt Murton straight up.

Nothing has been talked about for a few weeks until today.  It appears that the Rangers would like to do the deal, but only if the Cubs can include a pitching prospect it sounds like.  They feel that Byrd is move valuable then Murtan because of his defensive abilities.

Doesn’t sound like something will get done unless Hendry will include a pitching prospect.  If a deal does get done, Byrd will more then likely platoon with Felix Pie in center field.

Bruce Levine has reported that the Chicago Cubs have signed Alex Cintron to a minor league contract.  Most Cubs fans this morning are asking why Cintron?  The Cubs already have quite a few players that can play the middle infield positions.

Is this just an insurance incase Ronny Cedeno, Mike Fontenot, and Ryan Theriot stink it up?  I think there is going to be another move after this one, that will involve Cedeno more then likely where he will be headed to the Baltimore Orioles in the Brian Roberts deal.  Hmm sure makes things interesting!

Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster had something pretty funny to say on the first day that pitchers and catchers reported to spring training.  He said that the Cubs would win the world series and end their 100 year draught.  Hmm that is pretty funny!  Especially coming from Dempster lol.

Dempster is a joker in the clubhouse, but he said he was very serious that the Chicago Cubs would win the world series this year.  He said he didn’t work so hard, and his teammates didn’t work so hard, so they could watch the world series from home again.

Time will tell if Dempster’s prediction comes true.
